Fast-forwarding the development of alternative plastic materials and recycling of plastics

On 23 September, CHAMPION project partner VTT Technical Research Centre (Espoo, Finland) launched its piloting platform for process chemistry.

The VTT Bioruukki Pilot Centre was established five years ago to help businesses to scale up development of new value-added products in a faster and lower-cost approach. The new extension was added to support the process chemistry to develop alternative plastic materials and recycling of plastics at commercial scale. This so-called chemical recycling should help meeting recycling targets for plastic materials and enable the use of low-quality recycled materials for the industry to replace the use of new natural resources. In doing so the piloting platform aims to continue acting as a catalyst to the bio- and circular economy.
